SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Explore practical, cost-effective strategies for reducing embodied carbon from pre-design through construction. There’s no single path to decarbonizing buildings, but proven approaches exist that can save money and cut emissions at the same time. During this webinar, Bosa Properties will share how they’ve achieved a 10% embodied carbon reduction, and cost savings, by focusing on the highest-value building elements. Chandos Construction will also highlight lessons from real projects in Alberta and BC, where teams have optimized materials, avoided overdesign, and delivered significant carbon and cost savings.

GLOBE & MAIL EVENT: GEN Z AT WORK

The pandemic wasn't easy for anyone. We, as Gen Z, missed out on what are typically pivotal years of our lives in terms of our education, career and social development. The 'fear of missing out' was top-of-mind for many Gen Z, but it also made our generation hyper-aware of what we value, and what we want.

GLOBE & MAIL: GEN Z AT WORK

Introduction

While previous generations have strived to build careers no matter the consequence, Gen Z recognizes that life is precious, and not all of our time can be working a typical 9 to 5. Yet, this doesn't mean our generation doesn't want to work, it simply means the work we do must be fulfilling, provide value to our lives, or allow us to pursue other areas of our lives that are important to us.

GLOBE & MAIL: GEN Z AT WORK

INTRODUCTION

Giving a new meaning to "work-life balance," Gen Z appreciates flexibility. Our teens and twenties were filled with limited and restricted experiences, and we never want to feel that way again. We look for employers who not only foster flexibility within the workplace, but value the Gen Z perspective. The ability to make in-person connections, have access senior leadership, and work from anywhere on any given week is highly valued.

GLOBE & MAIL: GEN Z AT WORK

INTRODUCTION

Flexibility doesn't only look like of a work-from-home policy. It also looks like flexible health benefits, a culture that is willing to hear new perspectives, and changing who gets a seat at the table. Gen Z wants to be heard, and will be better workers if they are.

GLOBE & MAIL: GEN Z AT WORK

INTRODUCTION

Throughout the webinar, I offer the perspective of a Gen Z who recently entered the workforce. I have gained these insights thanks to an employer who has fostered the ideal Gen Z workplace environment, which I discuss in the webinar. It is important to note that despite being the only Gen Z speaker on the panel, my perspective cannot hold true for an entire generation. My thoughts and feelings are not shared by all, but are what I have witnessed from peers, colleagues, and personal experiences.

As the Social Coordinator for the University of Toronto's Geography and Planning department's student union (known as TUGS) I organized a career panel for undergraduate students to hear from recent alumni of the department on their career paths since graduation. With four panelists and myself as a moderator, we were able to share advice with students on finding and applying for internships, for applying to grad school, and the role of networking.
